Introduction : the Who, the What and the Why?

Whether you have stumbled here by mistake or genuinely planned to be reading this – welcome to my very first post on The Literature Lowdown (named by my much wittier older sister). Today, I want to straighten out the major questions. “Who are you?” “What is TLL and why did you start it?” Whatever the query may be, I am delighted you’re here and super excited to share my thoughts with you!

Who am I?

Big question, really. I guess it’s typical to start with names. I’m Lucy and I quite like to write. I like it so much, I pay about nine grand a year to study it at university. I like it so much, I have dedicated some of my spare time to create this blog and express my ideas and opinions to you wonderful people! This is a very new experience for me but one I will value, nonetheless.

What is The Literature Lowdown?

TLL is an opportunity for not just me, but anybody to share their opinions on all things literature via the comment section. We are a hive for writers and readers alike to explore and discuss all things wordy. From prose to poetry, you’re covered. Being an independently run blog, I have given myself the chance to write without any type of brief. This freedom stretches to you all – if you want a discussion on a topic, don’t be hesitant to mention it in the comments of my posts!

Why have I started this blog?

As a student, it is very difficult to open the gates into the writing industry. A portfolio of work is great to have on hand, and what better way to create this than writing candidly in a relaxed scenario?! Not only does this blog give me a reputable source of sample writing for any future applications, but it gives me a creative outlet; being able to share my thoughts with people interested in what I have to say is something I have always wanted to do.

I have loved writing for as long as I’ve known. As a child, I would look forward to my school’s annual awards ceremony wherein we were tasked to recreate well-known tales in our own writing. It was a way for me to express my creativity in the way that I knew how. This passion for creative writing stuck with me throughout secondary school, sixth form and now university.

The possibilities that this blog has given me are endless, and I am more than excited to begin my journey. I cannot wait to begin this next chapter in my life, and I’d love for you to join me on the way.

Happy reading!
